Glass orders: five checks before production

Correct dimensions alone do not fully define a glass product. Review composition, orientation, offsets and references with an example order and the Dimpro CW guided tour.

An order can have the correct width and height while still leaving an important question for the factory: which pane comes first, which component projects beyond another, or which item a note refers to. Resolving these questions during order entry helps prepare instructions that office and production teams can interpret consistently.

In Dimpro CW, our glass order management software, the composition and its visual representation accompany the commercial details. The purpose of the review is to check that the customer’s request, the information in the document and the product being prepared for production agree.

An example to review

Imagine an insulating glass order for two units measuring 1,200 × 800 mm. One pane has an offset, and there is an instruction about the coated face. This is an illustrative example: technical conditions must be checked for each order. What should you review before considering that item complete?

1. Dimensions, quantity and reference

Check the width, height and quantity against the request. Also check the reference orientation. The front view helps relate the outline to its dimensions; the top view helps review the arrangement of the components. A clear reference makes the item easier to identify when an order contains similar variants.

2. Composition and component order

Review the panes, spacer, gas and sealant that make up the unit, along with their order in the product tree. If you start from a saved product, check that its composition matches this request. Reusing a definition reduces data entry, but a review remains necessary when requirements change.

3. Shapes and offsets

Check which pane retains the reference dimensions and how the outlines of the other panes change. An offset changes the geometry of a component; edge deletion describes a different operation and must be reviewed separately. For a shaped pane, also compare its dimensions and orientation with the customer’s documentation.

4. Coated faces and operations

Associate the coated face and the specified operations with the component they belong to. A general note can be ambiguous when several pieces differ. Review the technical information for each item and the applicable manufacturing conditions before sending it to production.

5. Consistency across the document

Before confirming, review composition, quantities, references, pricing and manufacturing data together. Resolve warnings and check what information production will receive. The visual representation helps identify discrepancies and should be read alongside the order’s dimensions and specifications.
